'...caught in a bombing raid...?'

One of the synopses states that the victims of Hiroshima were "caught in a bombing raid." The post goes on to say "...the scene has an unfortunate 'blame America' tone."

Wow. Love is blind. We deliberately dropped atomic bombs on civilians. The victims were not caught in a bombing raid. They were murdered by the United States. We do many things right. Dropping the bomb was not one of them. Be realistic.

Hitler was VERY close to having a nuclear bomb of his own. He was constantly dropping bombs on Europe. Japan had invaded China and were responsible for the Nanking massacre that killed somewhere along the lines of 250,000 to 300,000 people. If that isn't enough for you the invading Japanese soldiers had a contest that was won by the first person to kill 100 people with a sword. The people that were killed included men, women and children. The Japanese were also planning on invading the Dutch east indies due to the abundance of oil that was known to be there. We weren't even involved in the war when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor taking out 75% of out naval fleet and killing thousands in the process (I knew someone who was stationed at Pearl Harbor on the USS Arizona none the less). If Japan had had that bomb they would have dropped it on us without thinking twice. They were warned ahead of time that we had it and told to surrender and they didn't (They were too busy trying to take over the world with Hitler) So, we dropped the first bomb- still no surrender. So, we dropped a second bomb- finally they surrendered. Then we went in nursed their sick and injured, rebuilt their country with all of the best technology that we had at the time and then we left. We didn't claim their country- we gave it back to them. We did the same for Germany. Would either of those countries have done the same for us if the roles were reversed?! Did they rebuild the ships at Peal Harbor? Did they say that they were sorry for the men that they killed there? Did they say they were sorry to the American soldiers families who's lives that they destroyed by killing their fathers, sons, brothers and sisters? No, they didn't! Did they say they were sorry to the Chinese for committing even worst atrocities against them? How about Nanking? Nope no apology there. No offer to rebuild what they had destroyed either. I can go on and on about how that bomb ended a war that was on the verge of becoming much MUCH worse than you can possibly imagine. But of course you won't see it this way. You never considered the lives that we lost (for no apparent reason) you never considered the Jews who were killed, you never considered the Europeans who were killed by the bomb strikes you never considered any of that. Yes, it is sad that men and women and children (on both sides)had to die in a terrible war, but millions even billions more were saved by ending that war. It is sad that crazy people were in charge of Japan and Germany, but they were and they needed to be stopped. My heart goes out to the victims, but that war needed to end in the quickest way possible. Would you rather that we have had what we have going on now in Iraq and Afghanistan where our people (I have family in that senseless war)are being killed for who knows what the dumb reason is anymore. Apparently, high thought processes are nil when it comes to watching a UN propaganda film that was intended to make Americans feel guilty for being American (which they still to this day try to do). Well, in your case you bought into the propaganda hook, line and sinker just like a bunch of lemmings jumping off a cliff without any thought. So, it's you who is the one that needs to be realistic.

Memories, you're talking about memories.

It's as if every blindly patriotic spewer of this same speech shares a brain. I hear the same faulty tripe every time. Since when is it logical to excuse an atrocity by siting another? America whitewashes history to far greater an extent than any other country. Can't people step back and admit that the slaughter of innocent women and children is/was wrong, and that we won't do it again? I mean, after the slaughter of Native Americans, and then what we've done in the Middle East more recently. We make mistakes. Why not have shame? Germany still hangs their head over their actions of 70+ years ago, yet the U.S. insists on justifying what was obviously a wrong. We don't get to choose which lives are cut short to preserve others. In the case if Hiroshima, we chose to kill civilians rather than lose soldiers who volunteered to die when they signed up. Pearl Harbor was not a civilian target.

My initial point, perhaps lost in your attempt to muddy it, was that the original post called the dead and dying children of Hiroshima "accidental victims of a bombing raid." This is a falsehood. The bombing was intentional. It was meant to kill civilians. Yes, they were only Japanese civilians and not good old normal humans like we have here, but I bet they loved their families and didn't want to die.

Ironic that you call my view "buying into the propaganda." The most prevalent buy-in is the idea that Hiroshima was only a little tragedy, so by definition, THAT'S the propaganda. My view goes against that. I know I'm in the minority. I lived for over 50 years with this view before watching this movie, so no, I fell for nothing. Killing is wrong, no matter who does it. This view does not come from a lack of thinking, but by constant thinking. That tired old argument that anyone who thinks differently than I must not be thinking clearly is full of flaws. Please be aware that there are those with very high intelligence who still feel that killing and weapons are wrong. It is the most highly evolved thinking, and I trust you'll arrive there before death - hopefully not in an accidental bombing raid.

Wow... extreme liberalism truly is a mental disorder.

Memories, you're talking about memories.

reply

...it's almost as bad as extreme conservatism.

The truth...as always...lies somewhere between the two extremes.

reply

It's just as bad don't make light of either mental disorder.

All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

reply

They started it. We finished it. Those same "innocent civilians" would have fought and died for Hirohito if Operation Downfall had taken place.

All I can do is be happy that there aren't too many war mongers around. Hot-heads with small brains and genitalia. May you eventually be the recipient of the hate that you spew.

Wow, you're wishing hurt on people with different beliefs than you. So much for that enlightened highest form of thinking. You're the typical extreme liberal hypocrite. Maybe you'll learn to think before you die, but probably not. The End.

Memories, you're talking about memories.

reply

"Wishing hurt?" I said that I hope you get what you put out there. YOU'RE the one calling it hurt.

I am DEFINITELY an extreme liberal. Proudly. But not hypocritical in any way. But you said "The End" so you win.
