TCM version ELIMINATES Mancini's Music

The version that recently aired on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) completely replaces the opening credits sequence to eliminate any mention of Mancini's name and replaces Mancini's opening theme with some tracked-in choral music (a repeat of the closing credits music).

This was most likely done for contractual or copyrights reasons, but the shameful thing is that unless you were aware of the change, you would never know, because the alteration was never mentioned. I just noticed as I was watching it for the first time that the credit sequence looked unusually modern.

It was only after the broadcast that it dawned on me that I never heard Mancini's beautiful "Carol For Another Christmas" theme.

Then I looked on YouTube and saw a bootleg of the original version that someone had on 16mm and the credit sequence was there with a more 1960's style and Mancini's name and music prominently displayed.

I never would have known if you hadn't of mentioned it. Thanks.

Wow. Even TCM is guilty of subversion (there was lots of it today on TCM since it was Sterling Hayden day and his films had that as a theme often).

This film, however, was very powerful. And strangely still appropriate for the """"modern"""" world. Those who believe the "Big Blast" never occurred are still living in the past.

Don't presume that the Turner Classic Movies network itself alters the content they present. They license titles from rights holders, then broadcast the version which they receive.

If the film was re-edited to remove Mancini's score and the opening titles were redone, there apparently was some problem or dispute over rights. But I expect that what TCM ran was the broadcast master which they received from its current distributor for airing.

Most great films deserve a more appreciative audience than they get.
