Sickness and Starvation Statistics

Does anyone have the starvation and disease statistics given by the Ghost of Christmas Present and current statistics to see how they compare fifty years on?

reply

You could likely track them down on Google

I do know that they quoted six billion people in the movie and two-thirds of them were hungry. The numbers were overinflated by a lot. There definitely wasn't six billion people when this movie came out, I doubt there was half that.

reply

I wondered about all the figures...whether they were accurate for 1964 and how they would compare now.

reply

Again, Google, if it matters that much to you

There are a lot of terrible things that happen in the world (both then and now) but this was purely a propaganda film that was put together by the U.N. in an attempt to dupe the ill-informed and easily led portion of the populace into believing that American society (as a whole) is inherently evil.

All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

You wish to take that viewpoint, that's on you. How's it feel to be selfish and uncaring?

reply

I don't know? How's it feel to be an assuming know it all?

reply

I wouldn't know. Seems to be your territpry... you're the one pontificating about nonsense

reply

If you say so. You already assumed that I am uncaring. So, further debate with you is pointless because you are a non-entity in my life.

reply

Wow. Guess you showed me. NOT. And I didn't assume you uncaring; you proved it with your post.

It feels good...if I don't have to see the faces of the suffering people.

I have no idea how Serling was able to write this. It had to be a Herculean task to take pen to paper when he delivered his message so heavy-handed.

reply

He was making a point. You weren't. You were simply being uncaring.

reply

Was just scanning the 1964 report from The Rockefeller Foundation. It says that half the world population at the time was hungry. The world population in 64 was 3.2 billion. Any way you cut it, that's a lot of hungry people (way too many.)

 The bad news is you have houseguests. There is no good news. 

Typical bleeding heart hyperbole. There will always be haves and have nots. Fortunately in the US you have the ability to choose which path to take. The US understands this and has fought wars to enable people to make their own choices. As far as starvation; if you can't feed your children, why have them? If you choose to have children that you can't take care of, then you will have to deal with the consequences; don't expect humanity to come to your rescue; grant it, they will if they can, but don't act as if the "have's" are to blame because you are in dire situations due to your own choices. The US has always supported democaracy so that people have choices and opportunity. But democaracy or a reupublic required discipline and resoponsiblity, it's not a "given".

"If you choose to have children that you can't take care of, then you will have to deal with the consequences;".

If this were true it would be fine. Unfortunately, many times the irresponsible adults involved suffer no consequences and the innocent children are the ones doing the suffering.

Amen!
