If you look at the scene where DeeDee (Annette Funicello) is talking to the Potato Bug (Frankie Avalon), she's wearing a blue bikini. You can see her navel, which she promised Walt Disney she wouldn't show in the beach films while she was still under contract to Disney. I wonder what Disney thought of this.
shareI read elsewhere that Annette didnt actually have the navel clause in her contract. because there are several times during the series where she is wearing a swimsuitthat exposes her navel. On the other hand Donna Loren did have such a clause in her contract because she was appearing in commercials as the Dr. Pepper spokesgirl and she had to maintain a "clean image."

Noticed the navel when the movie was shown on ThisTV today. I had always assumed she couldn't show her belly-button. It was oddly titillating seeing it exposed anyway. I guess it's the Forbidden Fruit Syndrome.
