Restored Print playing in 30 cities Jan. 26, 2007

Per USA Today, Jan. 18, 2007, section A, front page article on O'Toole: "A restored version will play 30 cities, starting with New York on Jan. 26."
I would imagine a DVD will not be many months behind.

For those who are in the San Diego, CA area.... the Ken Theater is scheduled to show Becket for a week starting on Feb 16th. Showtimes will probably be announced closer to the release date.

reply

My gawd, is the Ken still crankin' 'em out? In another century I saw "Pierrot le fou" "Singin' in the Rain" "Fanfan le tulipe" "Tight Little Island" and a myriad other foreign films (even though this Catholic boy was going against the dictates of the Legion of Decency by seeing anything French). I must check the place out next time in San Diego.

They played the trailer for the release prior to the showing of O'Toole's new film Venus.

I have been waiting for this on dvd for so long! I hope it really does come out in May. I'm seeing it this weekend at the Nuart Theater, in LA. I don't think I have ever seen it on the big screen, and I am so overjoyed I can barely stand it...:)

Thirty years ago I was at the Nuart at least once a week - glad to hear it's still there. Films seen there (for the first time): The Wild Bunch, Don't Look Now, Greaser's Palace, Pink Flamingos, Major Dundee....many more..

Not only is it still there, they've fixed it up a bit! I have been going there for about 30 years. Very nice, and it was a full house for the 1:30pm matinee. It got frustrating because they started the trailers 15 minutes late, and when they finally got to the end of them, there was just a blank screen for a while.....I'm sure I wasn't the only one to fear that something had happened to the print, or projector, or something... They were about to have a small riot on their hands :) when it finally started. And when the "BECKET" title finally came onscreen, I felt like getting weepy, I was just SO happen to see it again, and for the first time on the big screen! And it IS a gorgeous print- aside from a 15-second or so spot about halfway through that got a little iffy, it's flawless. As many times as I've seen it on a tv screen, it was a lot more overpowering on the big screen. I had the entire movie playing in my head for the rest of the weekend. Amazing...

I'm so excited that I can see it again on wide screen. Peter was wonderful and deserved the Oscar. Lawrance, Becket and Lion in winter were the films he definetly deserved the Oscar.

Just saw "Venus," as usual he was great and he should get the Oscar. This might be his last chance. I do hope we'll be seeing more of him in the future.

Yeah, he's over-deserved an Oscar for a long time! And even if he doesn't win, he's getting a LOT of press right now, which means a lot of people are going to be checking out his earlier stuff. Which is great! And I'm happy to see him getting so much press....
