"Shadows" was Cassavetes's first film, made in 1959.
I never thought of that before, but yes, this is somewhat like "Shadows." I don't think it's a ripoff or anything, just an interesting similarity. "Band of Outsiders" is one of my top ten favorite movies. "Shadows" is not.

Comic cocktail. I like that. Can you please verify where Godard has said this though? Godard's old age has really marred my personal opinion of him with all of his changing opinions. I would not be surprised if he had said this to cut off his own nose just to stab at Tarantino for using the name in jest and using his style so heavily.

I agree. Good movie with some cool experimental stuff going on but mainly thanks to the story and some of the cinematography it is rather overrated.
I'd give it a 7.2
