The Proposed Sequel

I've heard it mentioned before that Pierrot le Fou is intended to be "the sequel" mentioned at the end of this film. I guess I'm just curious as to how many people believe this to be true, and why/why not? Furthermore, I'd love to hear what implications, thoughts, or resonance you all may have taken away from viewing these two films in such a light. 'Can't wait to hear what you have to say!
