Surprisingly good

I just watched this today on cable. I'm Filipino American and was certain it was filmed in Mexico, but the credits say Bicol (which is on the southern end of Luzon, Philippines. To me, the main Filipino actors don't look so authentic, but I guess they were mestizo. The accents were good, even to pronouncing their "P's" like "F's" and vice versa.

I'm gonna see it again in a couple weeks and make sure my wife catches it also. She's from Bicol Region!

Mabuhay Jack!

While perhaps it represents real war/special ops well, as a movie meant to be at least somewhat entertaining, I don't care for it much (I'm watching the final few minutes of it now).

To me, the acting just seems kind of poor -- not a lot of emotion conveyed by the actors, and based on the B&W & poor lighting in many scenes, it seemed to be a low-budget movie.

I thought the big fight in which the good guys sneak into town and then fighting erupts in the street (the scene in which Nicholson goes up into the bell tower) was surprisingly well done and exciting. It kind of reminded me of the climactic battle in THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN--only with automatic weapons and hand grenades.

Imre Demech I spent time in Olongago mis-spelled, Subic Bay & because of my visit there via US NAVY I became interested in Phillipines history. I found out over 4 million U S military personal visited here at the peak of the Vietnam War in 1967-1968. Spain tried to own all of the Phillipines. Most Flips, not deragatory loved America & vice versa. I met very many who served on US Naval ships & bases in & around Subic Bay. Now again he Phillipine gov is leasing the Subic Bay Naval facilities due to terrorism. When the US Navy is there over 60,000 people are working or fully employed. After a 15 year absence of the US Navy from Subic, they were asked by the Phillipines government to sign lease agreements to permanently operate there. This is very important to have a US presence in this part of the Western Pacific just as it is in Japan, Singapore, Korea & into the Indian Ocean. This part of the world is being maintained by the U S Navy to keep the peace . That is why the Phillipines Islands is so strategically important to have US Naval facilities operating 24/7. I found WWII relics rusting away in the jungles in 1969 to my surprise. Many a American soldiers fought & died side by side with the Phillipinos. We needed them & they needed us. It remains today.
