Imre Demech I spent time in Olongago mis-spelled, Subic Bay & because of my visit there via US NAVY I became interested in Phillipines history. I found out over 4 million U S military personal visited here at the peak of the Vietnam War in 1967-1968. Spain tried to own all of the Phillipines. Most Flips, not deragatory loved America & vice versa. I met very many who served on US Naval ships & bases in & around Subic Bay. Now again he Phillipine gov is leasing the Subic Bay Naval facilities due to terrorism. When the US Navy is there over 60,000 people are working or fully employed. After a 15 year absence of the US Navy from Subic, they were asked by the Phillipines government to sign lease agreements to permanently operate there. This is very important to have a US presence in this part of the Western Pacific just as it is in Japan, Singapore, Korea & into the Indian Ocean. This part of the world is being maintained by the U S Navy to keep the peace . That is why the Phillipines Islands is so strategically important to have US Naval facilities operating 24/7. I found WWII relics rusting away in the jungles in 1969 to my surprise. Many a American soldiers fought & died side by side with the Phillipinos. We needed them & they needed us. It remains today.
