Similarity to The Music Man

The Music Man, a Warner production two years before MGM's Seven Faces of Dr Lao have interesting similarities. The female lead, a lonely librarian living with a boy and mom who speaks with a heavy accent from the old country. It's almost a clone.

I noticed it immediatly and it's funny because the two movies are very different overall.

I like waking up in the morning not knowing who I'll meet or where I'll end up: The Titanic

There are some other similarities... I noticed the same thing this most recent time watching it.

First of all, the entire plot mechanism is this strange man coming into town, and the townspeople are divided as to whether he is a fake or for real.

They are both on a certain level about imagination being more important than "reality." And about the ability to see wonder and magic in the "ordinary" world around you.

Did I not love him, Cooch? MY OWN FLESH I DIDN'T LOVE BETTER!!! But he had to say 'Nooooooooo'

Clone or ripoff. The library scene is practically word-for-word except for the music, and, of course, the dancing. I have seen "The Music Man" numerous times and participated in putting on the stage version twice, but even a person having seen it only once could not fail to notice the resemblances. I only saw 30 or 40 minutes of this, but the town and many of the characters are clones, impersonations, or ripoff versions. Mike is Winthrop, the circus is the Wells Fargo Wagon, and so on.

I haven't read the original book, but Tony Randall was undoubtedly right, his part is based on the book, the rest is all filler, and his part is the only good part of the movie. Some parts were funny, though.
