Major Gerber (Taylor) goes into a detailed discussion about how he had developed methods to help shell shocked Germans on the Russian front recover and he insisted that Major Pike (Garner) take his research journals with him when he escaped so that other soldiers might benefit.

I suppose I should find a psychiatric board instead of a movie board, but does anyone know if there is validity to Dr Gerber's methods of tricking patients into thinking they have amnesia to rehabilite them? Or is this just yet another example of a Hollywood gimmick?

Cowgoesmoo;

There is quite a bit of discussion on the Wikipedia site,

under "Combat Stress Reaction." Many of the doctors who

treated Viet-Nam Vet/soldiers were open to any treatment

which could facilitate recovery.

At the University level, such expermental programs were

said to be under study.
