I LOVE John Banner in this.....

I've been seeing him in a number of old movies recently, but know him best from Hogan's Heroes. But the line that he started learning English the day America declared war to be ready for occupation... priceless!

John Banner was always a favorite, most notably from Hogan's Heroes of course, but it's fun to find him in large and small roles throughout the 50s and 60s.

But it's always disconcerting when you see him in a villainous or downright evil role, of which he essayed a few. The most upsetting was in the 1961 film Operation Eichmann, about the Israelis' hunt for and capture of the fugitive Nazi Adolf Eichmann. In that film Banner has a small role as a concentration camp Kommandant who not only enjoys the sight of Jews being gassed but spend his dinner with his family describing the scene and laughing about it with his guest Eichmann...played by none other than Werner Klemperer!
