It was a mistake to dye his hair because you can always smell it when your hair is freshly dyed. In real life it would've immediately tipped him off that something fishy was going on.

All they did was put a few gray streaks in his hair (the scenario being only 6 years in the future), so maybe that wouldn't have been an issue.
