What does FAB stand for ??

Just wondering......

reply

Nothing at all. It's basically like saying "Okay" or "Roger".

"Daniel, make us proud!" :Little Sean, George, Roger, Pierce and Tiny Tim

reply

No its short for fabadabulous you silly darlings! (The tracys were gay)

I think you'll find it stands for Federal Agents Bureau.

Just a coincidence, that, but the initials really don't stand for anything. (We've got several older threads all about this). It merely comes from the short form of "fabulous" and was used as a confirmation that what had previously been said had been heard, like "Roger" or "affirmative" (and not a finalization of the broadcast at hand, as some people seem to think).

Btw, I've always wondered why there would even be something called a "Federal" Agents Bureau in the UK...?

because, the characters are American, I believe, even though the show is British.

Yes, I don't think "FAB" actually stands for anything.

Yes, but that's nothing to do with the Federal Agents Bureau, actually. That's the organization in Britain to which Penny belonged and with which she operated as a secret agent and administrator before she joined International Rescue. This was prior to her introduction to Jeff Tracy.

Just as a side note... "FB" is a Morse code abbreviation commonly used by hams. It's short for "fine business." At least, that's what they've always claimed; a vulgar interpretation is obvious (but then, that is true for many innocent things).

I'm sure this had nothing to do with Thunderbirds' usage, but it's fun to think about. ;)

For 30 years I have thought they were saying SIG...

-That's all the time we have, thanks for playing.

Acutally, if you ask die-hard Thunderbirds fans, they will tell you that FAB indeed has a meaning. It is widely thought that FAB stands for "Fully Aware and Briefed."

Gerry Anderson has said repeatedly it means nothing other than a way to acknowledge a message and not sound like it's a WWII movie.

In the past 44 years fans have attached sorts of meaning to the initials but in the end no one on the show at the time knew or for that matter really cared what it meant.

If you watch British television during the 1960s you'll see more examples of this practice to just try and create a pop reference. The other most famous is "be seeing you" from THE PRISONER. No one in England said that as a good bye but of course in the Village it was inevitable.

Fab means 'forward all birds".
Gerry 1st heard the the term while he was in the Royal Air Force during the mid 50s, he was told it was a code word used by the USAF during WW2, it was sent to hundreds of American bombers at the same time to send them on their way to bomb Germany, this was once all the planes from up to a dozen different airfields had met up in the sky. The idea was for so many was safety in numbers, ie more dificult for German fighters to shoot the down.
