Series one was pretty tragic.....

I've been a big fan of Steptoe and Son for many years. Is anyone else of the opinion that the first series was humerous in places but overall tragic. I don't think that Steptoe and Son became funny until the end of series 2/ start of series 3.

Full House, Is That Your Horse Outside, Homes Fit for Heroes etc, these are the first episodes where the real comedy starts to shine through. Earlier episodes such as 65 today and particularly The Offer usually leave me feeling pretty miserable after them. Still think they are gems though.
