No (permanent) recasts. Thankfully.
What immediately set this show above all other soaps was that it never recast a character, except temporarily in the case of Constance (briefly played by Lola Albright when Dorothy Malone had to have surgery) and old man Peyton (briefly played by Wilfrid Hyde-White when George Macready was ill). (Albright was OK in the role, but Hyde-White could not effectively replace Macready).
While this may have led to some popular characters leaving the show, it also made the show less predictable and more fate-driven, like real life is.
