Who was in ALL 514 episodes?

Ryan O'Neal has the highest amount of episodes if you check the cast in the imdb. He played in 458 episodes.
I am wondering if there is somebody who was a part of all 514 episodes?

reply

Rodney was not in the last episodes of the series - Im surprized that he had the most eps.
Ed Nelson was in the very first and very last episode of the 514 so I thought that he was in more than O'Neal.

reply

Yes, you are right, Ed Nelson was in almost every episode. I don't remember him taking a leave of absence from PP.
And Frank Ferguson was in many episodes, even after Dorothy Malone and Tim O'Connor (his son) left.

reply

In dear Mr. Nelson's book, " Beyond Peyton Place", he speaks of getting very ill on the set of the show. He had a lung infection and that's why " Dr. Rossi" took a vacation to NYC to visit his family.

I do believe Ed Nelson was in more episodes than anyone else though. :)

I'm in the process of re-watching the show and updating some episode pages. It is likely that Ed Nelson is the performer that was credited for all 514 episodes, though he does not appear in all of the segments.

reply

Hi GMJames, when I checked the imdb PP episode guide a few months ago, the descriptions of the last 7 episodes were still missing.
Does that mean you will add these descriptions soon?

Yes, Ed Nelson was in most episodes and also Barbara Parkins I thought. I know that Dorothy Malone and Tim O'Connor (sp?) left shortly after they had the baby, but seem to remember that Parkins was still part of most episodes.

reply

I'm filling out missing credits (writers/directors, crew). Unfortunately, I have no plans to add any story descriptions. Perhaps another contributor/fan can write the story descriptions.

Thanks for writing.

No one was actually in all 514 episodes. Remember, those credited at the beginning of the show are listed on IMDb as in every episode even if they were "credit only". It's too much to ask of any actor to be in every single episode of a series that runs two or three times every week all year long, even in summer.

Ed Nelson, Barbara Parkins, and Christopher Connelly were in the show from start to finish. Ryan O'Neal was missing only from the last episodes in 1969. Frank Ferguson came on late in 1964 and stayed till the end.

When I watched it in 2009, I thought Dorothy Malone was in almost every episode until Lola Albright had to replace her when Malone was ill. Then Malone was back again.
I know she and Tim O'Connor left the series at some point (unfortunately), but up to Lola Albright she was a pretty regular part of PP, wasn't she?

reply

She was in most episodes, but just in the first season I count 15 episodes where IMDb lists her as "credit only", and remember that that qualifier has to be put in by people like you and me, not the owners of IMDb. I'd have to watch each episode again to know for certain, but no, even Malone was not in EVERY episode for any season. All of the performers need a break once in a while, especially on a soap. To viewers, it may look like a mere five minutes per day, but it involves much more for the actors working on the show. No actor on PP was in every single episode over a full season.

That makes sense. Thanks, rbecker28.

Warner Anderson. Yep, it's true. Although Uncle Matt Swain was written out as an onscreen character, he narrated every single episode broadcast. None of the actors involved the show appeared in every episode.

reply

Not even Christopher Connelly or Ed Nelson?

reply

They both missed episodes.

Ed Nelson was out 5 weeks due to illness:

Hi SkipEastport,

Thank you for the interesting article (wouldn't it be great if somebody would have started collecting the many articles on PP and it's stars between 1964 and 1969 and could publish a scrap book/coffee table book with hundreds of articles and pics now?).
Unfortunately I could only read the part about Dorothy Malone, it did nor let me scroll down.
Could you maybe copy & paste the entire text and post it here?
That would be awesome.

Thanks,

Chrissie

Subtract all the episodes in which they are listed as "credit only" and you'll have the right number. No one was actually on screen for all 514 episodes and any actor will tell you that would be too much to ask.

reply

Ed Nelson and Barbara Parkins were the only actors who received a screen credit for all 514 episodes, but did not appear in every episode. Technically Warner Anderson (Matthew Swain in the fist season) participated in every episode (giving the opening narration) but did not receive any screen credit as the narrator.

I was always puzzled by Dorothy Malone getting top billing when she never seemed to be in the programme !
