The movie and show are two totally different things, completely separate from one another. I personally just thought the movie was o.k., but I absolutely love the show. I initially bought part 1 and loved it, then found out that the rest of the show was not released commercially, besides part two, and parts one and two only cover about 60ish shows out of 514. I bought the complete series including the four movies made after the show on ioffer.com for $34, including free shipping. Can't go wrong with that price. I'm currently on episode 211. The show is much better than the movie, in my opinion, but the movie is still worth watching if you like the classics. Hope this helps. :)

Yes, just go to ioffer.com and you can get the whole series. I am also a big fan of Betty and Dr. Rossi as well!

The film has a whole different take and it is more 50s oriented. However READ the book it was very scandalous for the 50's. It dealt with rape, incest, homosexuality, murder, suicide and many things the series never touched. It is excellent and the film has outstanding moments. It was nominated for ten Academy Awards, acting, and best film among them and was a record for the time it did not win any awards. The cast was stellar featuring Lana Turner, Hope Lange, Terry Moore, Russ Tamblyn, and Lloyd Nolan. There is the follow up film "Return To Peyton Place" which is good. The major disappointment for me was many of the major characters and plots were eliminated from the series or completely changed. The film Constance and Rossi are a couple and Allison's father is dead. In the series, her best friend Selena was cut due to the incest storyline which was pivotal in the film and book. I could go on, but the book and film are superior to the series. The series is dated and looks it. While I like the series but it bears no resemblance to the film or book. Rumor has it that the original pilot which has never been seen bears more resemblance to both film and book. Selena and her family are in the pilot before being cut when it made the ABC network schedule. There are publicity photos of Farrow, Dorothy Malone and Gyl Roland (Selena).

No, the movie and the TV series are not in continuity with each other. They are just both based on the same novel.
