All Prints Were Discarded?

It seems this show is never going to turn up in re-release. I read some years ago that the films of this show had been discarded to make space in a storage facility. What a shame!

Found this @ tvshows.org:

Regardless, it is unlikely that My Living Doll will be seen by a mass audience again. Most of the episodes were destroyed by the producers, although at least two episodes made it onto VHS videotape (unfortunately they appear to no longer be available).

I heard that too. Apparantly Elizebeth Mongomery's estate owns the rights to "My Living Doll." I had found 6 episodes and offered them on iOffer on DVD and was told to cease and decist, which I have done. I thought they were public domain but apparently they are not. I know they are not PC but I enjoyed them as a kid and still do. I don't like the banning or withholding of history to make like it didn't exist but I agree with their right to do it.

reply

My Living Doll still is owned by Jack Chertok Television, it is not in PD at all, many of the episodes still do exist today.
If you know of the whereabouts of any prints 16mm we would really like to know as at this point there is a major push to restore this show and get to the fans of classic tv.
Help restore a part of tv's past contact me at my email on the IMDB, be a part of the return of this show.

reply

All but 3 episodes are in PD on this series.

I also recall the show and have been searching for any episodes available. I did find and downloaded a very poor copy (evidently a capture of a VHS recording) of the first episode of the series from a newsgroup, alt.binaries.multimedia.vintage-tv. If anyone has any ideas about finding more, I would be very interested.

I believe that I remember some episodes being sold by a classic TV tape seller called Shokus Video, but the last time I checked they were not being offered for sale.

Any ideas?

reply

The show will be out on a DVD boxed set soon, as I said Jack Chertok Productions is seeking the best source material available.
My message is simple if you know of the whereabout of any 16mm network prints of our show please contact me.
You will be able to get this fun and well produced show soon.

reply

Wow! Thanks. I await the DVD boxed set with bated breath and visions of Julie Newmar in my head!

reply

Well you should she will be hosting each episode on the Boxed set, By the way we are still looking for our 16mm prints in order to complete the run.
Also having found all the music from the show we may do a soundtrack, the music is by the great George Greeley.

Put Moviecraft in Google & you will come up with Larry Urbanski's pages of old TV shows. He has some My Living Doll shows derived from 16mm prints. If he still has the prints then maybe you could borrow them. Also check Ebay as sometimes a 16mm TV print of this show goes up for auction.

reply

That's not really going to be needed as we have almost all the shows in film form now.
Extra prints would be nice, but unless they are 35mm we are really covered.

And Larry Urbanski knows about whats going on with the show.. at least I hope so, because all the copyrights are fully intact now.

Thanks for your good advice anyhow..hope you enjoy the boxed set when it comes out in 2007.

Yes...But we still need extra 16mm and 35mm prints, to restore the show fully.

When it comes to something like this time is not on our side, these old prints have a shelf life.

Don't tell me, ask those film collectors who are not helping us find alternate prints. when they outbid us on Ebay they are making the whole proccess harder than it needs to be, and more expensive and slower as well!

Have you asked those film collectors if you could borrow those prints for a film transfer and then return the prints to those collectors when you were done transferring the shows they lent to you? Yes I'm a 16mm film collector but sadly I don't have any of the shows to lend. If I did I'd lend them out to you but you'd have to send them back to me as it's my print (or prints) and would be kept in a personal collection.

If they won't lend you any prints then the other idea (if you have the money) is to outbid them on Ebay!!

Were you able to use Larry Urbanski's prints for your restoration? I hope so as he is a nice guy to deal with. I know as I've bought film prints & video's from him several times.

reply

Still working on it, the show was in worse condition than expected..quality takes time.
It will be released as soon as possible..

any news on this release yet? Its 2009 and still no dvds. I would love to have this in my collection. I remeber the show with fondness.

reply

I would love for this to show up. I vaguely remember this from when I was a kid. I'm currently systematically working through all the major robots (actually, robots, androids, cyborgs, or even psychologically or genetically modified humans) in the history of TV. There are only two major shows I can't find. One are some of the early episodes of Dr. Who with the Daleks and Cybermen. Those episodes are apparently gone for good, though there are plenty of episodes of the third doctor onwards. The other is MY LIVING DOLL. This one is interesting in that Rhoda was one of the first humanoid robots. Except for an episode of THE TWILIGHT ZONE, almost all robots looked like variants of Robbie the Robot, such as the robot on LOST IN SPACE. Shortly after Rhoda was Hymie on GET SMART!

Really anxious to see as much of this one as possible.

reply

This show is far from lost..

There will be news very soon on a DVD release...

I'd love to see it again. I see it's mostly the guys who have been posting, fans of beautiful Julie Newmar. As both Rhoda and Catwoman, Julie was very much a role model for little girls who saw her play these roles with witty intellect, physical strength, and with an exotic beauty that surpassed other role models of the time. Boys had so many more characters to inspire them (Batman, Superman, many Western heroes, cops, etc.) than we young ladies did, and as "aging boomers" (god, I hate that expression!), we still respect her and remember how she portrayed characters that may have been our earliest example of strong women in the post-WWII world.

I would love to see her play one of those uber-villains in a James Bond flick.

If expense/obtaining copies is the hold up...have you tried cutting some kind of deal with Shout! Factory?

They have a great rep (so collectors might be more inclined to share), love restoring stuff like this and are great at promoting it...and passing all costs on to the consumer (but they put out quality stuff so it's not so painful).

Everbody who played a lead in this show was contacted, with no prints resulting..as you can see I have the MPI release this year on March 20th.
I hope this will result in further shows turning up as I have been working on this project for over five years..we have a stunning collection of still images from the show as gallery material that should make all the fans very happy.
