Why hasn't this show gotten the same attention as Andy Griffith

Seeing as GP was a spin-off of The original Andy Griffith Show it seems strange that it has sort of been AWOL for years from tv. I mean maybe Nick-at-Night or something may have shown it at some time or another but it never got the syndication flush that the other Mayberry series got and I wonder why?

Should have been owned by the same persons so you would have thought that someone like Ted Turner would have mined this series the same way.

Maybe it was the "military" aspect of the show that made it seem a hard sell after Viet Nam?

This is true - it did run in syndication for a number of years on WTBS before Ted Turner completely changed all programming and expunged all the grand oldies like this one.

We're watching the first season on DVD now, the kiddos who've never seen it before are absolutely loving it, and Jim Nabors' commentary/intros are making the episodes even more enjoyable.

I dont think the show was that good, there is nothing pretty about marine barracks, gomer is more of a suporting charactor not a lead, hes just a bit too annoying, and how many time s can sgt carter yell at him for the same thing ????

Back during the 1970's and 1980's GP was heavily run in syndication. I think AG gets more play because it was the original plus there were quite a few people that were fans of Andy and Barney but not the other supporting characters. Probably quite a few more people can relate to the strictly rural Mayberry versus Camp Henderson. Perhaps people thought of Vince Carter as being on the seedy side versus Otis and Ernest T Bass.
