Likeable Sgt Carter Moments

What are some of Sgt Carter's more likable moments?
To be clear, I really enjoy the character and honestly think he makes the show, but I know his constant anger, frustration and annoyance with Gomer, although funny, can make him come off as the bad guy to most (although we'd probably all be that way if we had to deal with someone like Gomer in real life). However, I do agree he was unnecessarily mean and insensitive to Gomer sometimes.

So what are some likeable or redeemable Carter moments or actions for you, that make him not seem all that bad?

He softened up some when he started dating Bunny late in the series.

Sorry, but I can't recall any specific instances.

the absolutely FUNNIEST episode with Sgt Carter (at least to me) is the one when he couldn't lose his cool or couldn't yell or something.....and ended up driving way out somewhere to SCREAM his head off.... LOL... The little whimpering noise or moan he makes when he's irritated at Gomer is funny as hell.... I think Frank Sutton was one of the BEST comedy actors EVER on a tv sitcom.

There was the time when Gomer was headed home with a wad of money and Carter decided to go part way with him to prevent him from being pickpocketed or otherwise robbed. Of course, the people he feared were honest and the nice lady he wanted Gomer to trust was the real crook, and Carter was trying to get Gomer home safely so he would wind up leaving the Corps, but he still went out of his way to protect Gomer's money.

Another time he went out of his way to help Gomer was when they were trying to return the mis-delivered baby carriage.

There were, as you said, a few times when he was too unkind to Gomer, especially after he had gotten to know him so well, in the last season or so, when he almost instantly thought Gomer was lying to him even though he should have known better.

Why don't we just shoot 'em down and be through with it?

Those are all very good examples! I think that deep down inside, Carter actually cared more for Gomer than he was willing to let on.

Another episode that comes to mind in which Sgt. Carter wasn't half bad is the episode where Opie visits the marine base after running away from home. Carter was actually very sweet and kind to him in that episode, after his initial frustration with the situation, he ended up showing a much softer side.
