No, it did NOT. What is the reason for her character being discontinued?

reply

Whatever the reason for her character being written out of the show is unclear, but as to the reason the actress was let go is basically(and I can't type the word because IMBd will just bleep it)because Patricia Blair was being a "female relative of a dog".
Get real, lady! Back in those days women had children young, and their daughters did in turn...I'm sure it was no unusual thing for a woman to be a grandmother before 40.
See "Trivia" on the IMDb page.

Great minds run in the same channel, and fools think alike.

How about Patricia Blair Witch Project?

Thanks for the historical info. on the Boone children. That was interesting!

reply

thanks for the info everyone, it was really interesting learning about the boone children, her going away to get married sounds right, I was young when I watched the first time and couldn't remember, I'm enjoying watching again so much, I remember when we first got cable in the 70's, the show had been off the air for awhile, one day I turned on the french channel and there Daniel was, I was so happy I found the show I didn't care that I couldn't understand a word they said lol

The actual historical events of Daniel Boone's life and the lives of his family are much more interesting than anything portrayed in the television series.

Mayhaps the TV Jemima ran off with Adam Cartwright & Richie Cunningham's elder brother...

And Frasier Crane's older airline pilot brother.

Veronica Cartwright wanted a better career, most young actors do not like to be tied down to a series like Ron Howard of Happy Days or Richard Thomas of the Waltons.

Not true.

VC wanted a few years off from acting having acted in so much at that time. A lot of young kids get over worked and miss out on their childhood. Keep in mind, when she was on DB, she continued acting in other projects as well.

Then after the end of the 2nd season, she took off from acting for two years not working from 1966-68 then began doing small roles in episodic TV.

It probably fit into the Cartwright mom schedule because at that time, Angela's career was busy with Lost In Space.

On the Daniel Boone Season 1 & 2 DVD extras, some of her being written out of the series was talked about but the actors seemed to be clueless as to why. They chalked it up as the writers were clueless as to what to do with her, which could have been part of the reason. Veronica, herself didn't elaborate on the reason why on the DVD extras so she may not even remember the reason from it being so long ago or perhaps her mom had to make a choice of being on the set of Daniel Boone or Lost In Space since she couldn't be on both sets.

She was asked if her and Darby Hinton (Israel) got along, which all seemed to be positive in that aspect. Even Darby said he wondered what happened to her as well and him being a kid was never actually told the reason.

The character was dropped without being mentioned again. Daniel Boone actually had ten children.

Veronica Cartwright's parents were concerned about the on and offscreen chemistry that was developing between her and Robert Logan (Jericho Jones). So, they pulled her out of the series. Jemima's disappearance was never explained on the series. Moshe just wasn't there anymore.

It was explained last year, just a few posts down from yours...

Also, Veronica Cartwright stated that it was Patricia Blair who wanted her off the show. She said that Patricia felt that Jemima's having romantic scenes and story lines made her, Patricia, look old. Veronica said that Patricia threatened to leave the series if Veronica stayed.

She was a victim of Chuck Cunningham syndrome. In Jemima's case, she had the misfortune to get caught in a time loop in 1806. Everyone else went back to 1776 and forgot all about her.

The reason for Veronica Cartwright leaving the series seems pretty well explained. The writers were starting romantic storylines for her and Patricia Blair felt having a daughter old enough for romantic attachments aged her and told the powers that be, "Either she goes or I do." Darby Hinton, being a child at the time, was not told the reason and did not learn it until he and Veronica Cartwright got together for the 50th anniversary of the series.

As for a real life explanation of Jemima's absence, in a rare turn of events history perfectly lines up with the series "timeline" and I use the word "timeline" loosely as Season 2 depicts events as late as 1807. The Facebook page of The Historic Daniel Boone Home writes, "Jemima...married Flanders Isham Callaway a few months after her capture [by a Native American raiding party...an exciting real life event not depicted in the series]. Accounts indicate they married in late 1776 or early 1777 in the state of Kentucky; at the time of their marriage Jemima was 14 and Flanders was 24." Late 1776 and early 1777 would align perfectly with the series, that is, assuming Season 1 is 1775, Season 2 (at the end of which Jemima disappeared) is 1776, and Season 3 is 1777, and that the series actually followed historical events. Jemima, who was depicted as a young teenager, simply married and left home.
