A Vision of Sugar Plums
I realized I brought this up on the old imdb boards, but I must ask again: Am I the ONLY
one who dislikes this first Christmas outing?
I tried sitting through it Sunday night, to get my holiday viewing started. I chose this first,
mainly to get it over with. I still find it duller than dull, sluggishly paced, unfunny treacle.
The direction is so poor (Alan Rafkin), and the performances lackluster. The always
capable Billy Mumy just sleepwalks though his role (compare this to his sparkling turn as
young Darrin in season two). Alice Pearce and Montgomery are fine, but not enough to save
this dud, which is also cheap-looking, and loaded with bad special effects (love those DOLLS
flying on the tiny broom over the model house!).
The fact that all we have so far is a surviving 16 MM print doesn't help either.
Why does everyone like this one so much? I truly don[t get it.
