Aunt Clara's relationship to Samantha

I know it's never been revealed how Aunt Clara is related to Samantha on the show.....

But I like to think that she is Maurice's older sister.

1. Endora and Arthur never talk about her as a sibling.

2. Endora certainly has never shown any warmth to her

3. Maurice on the other hand ALWAYS is super nice and even loving towards her. Pus she has somewhat of British accent as does Maurice (Endora sort of does but hers is more of a pseudo posh/glamorous Continental accent.

It would also make sense if Clara were Maurice's aunt, making her Samantha's GREAT Aunt, but somewhere I read a quote where Clara says she'll be a "great" aunt when Tabitha is born.

So I like to think she and Maurice are brother and sister.

Oh, I definitely don't think she was a sibling of Endora. In one episode Endora tells Uncle Arthur how she was an only child until he came along. And Aunt Clara is definitely older than those two. Much is made of the fact that she is elderly and showing many signs of losing her powers.

...but now I'm starting to wonder if she WAS related to Endora. She could've been Endora's aunt.

I just watched the "Allergic to Macedonian Dodo Birds" episode. When Endora lost her powers, Aunt Clara acquired them. Doctor Bombay said that her powers would've gone to someone else whose powers were fading.

Endora asks if a "perfect stranger" would have her powers. I had forgotten that Dr. Bombay said that they would be transferred to a relative.

So, were the two women blood relatives? Or were they relatives by marriage, as in, Clara could've been related to Maurice?

I just got finished watching an episode where Endora complains about Clara to Samantha and refers to her as “your aunt Clara”. So Clara must be on Maurice’s side of the family. If she was on Endora’s side of the family I would think she’d be referred to as just Aunt Clara.

So she’s probably either Maurice’s older sister or Maurice’s aunt.

Although Endora has never referred to Clara as her sister-in-law so maybe she’s Maurice’s aunt.

I don't know. In the Macedonian Dodo Bird episode, Doctor Bombay says that Endora's powers were transferred to a relative.

Endora could be a relative of Aunt Clara's through marriage but it always seemed to me that Bombay was referring to blood relative.

Also just because Endora refers to her as "your Aunt Clara" when she speaks to Samantha, that doesn't mean Endora was not related to her.

When I was a child my mom often referred to HER mom as "your grandmother". In reference to my siblings, we'd get asked, "Where's your sister?", "Tell your sister that dinner is ready", etc.

But anyway, the show's writing was vague and it kept the audience guessing.

That’s true. And maybe Endora said “Your Aunt Clara” because she was angry. Just like a parent would say to the other parent “Look what your child did”.

Oh that anger thing was true in my family!

Whenever my sisters or I did something our mom didn't approve of, she'd say, "You're just like your father!"

If we did something commendable, she'd say, "You're a lot like me."
