Serena's Parentage

One of those silly things that I speculate on every now and then. WHO were Serena's parents?

If she and Sam were cousins, one of her parents would be a sibling of either Maurice or Endora. But she never referred to them as aunt or uncle. She obviously wasn't Uncle Arthur's daughter or Aunt Clara's either.

It's something I wondered about when the last few seasons of the show used tired, old recycled scripts and repeated plot lines. They would've had new material to mine by introducing one of Serena's parents. Her mother could have been the exact opposite of Endora, very accepting of mortals and very distressed at her daughter's adolescent antics.

I think it was a missed opportunity, Just sayin'

The whole 'cousin' thing in those shows was to introduce an 'evil' or 'not right' relative rather than extended family members....therefore they were not going to get too technical.

In his first book on the series, author Herbie J. Pilato stated that the lack of "family tree" technicalities were one of
the show's "few faults." I disagree. I like that it's left to our imagination as to who was related to who.

I also like that not once - EVER - did we see Endora's house (or houses). I don't think Columbia could've afforded the
budget to "conjure up" where Endora lived. And it's much more fun for us to imagine it.

One time Sam "went home to mother" when she and Darrin had a fight. But they were only shown sitting on a cloud. I always wondered what Endora's home looked like, maybe a cross between the Taj Mahal and Buckingham Palace.

There was a scene when she was zapped into the Stephen's living room and she was in the middle of her bath. Judging from the huge, luxurious tub that she was in, a bet her place was fancy.

I believe it's "canon" that Serena is related via Maurice's side. Another site has it documented. they also quote somewhere where they say Samantha takes after her father lookswise which would make sense since she and Serena are identical.

reply

I thought about that too. I mean, Samantha resembling her father. It was a very early first season episode when Darrin is nervous about meeting Endora for the first time. He asks Sam if she looks like her mother and she replies that she resembles her father.

Interesting, it was also true in real life. Elizabeth Montgomery did resemble her actor father.

I believe in some show they actually say Serena is related on Sam's father side. I don't know which one though.

Which is odd cuz she is often teaming up with Endora or Arthur

Well, the witch community might not be that big. We are never told the actual numbers, so maybe they all know each other!

In my family, my paternal grandmother grew up on the same block as her future husband. When they married, one of her sisters and her sister-in-law hung out together and were friends. Both families knew each other well.

I think it's in "Mrs. Stephens, Where Are You?" in season five, where Serena tells Phyllis that she's from Sam's father's side. I think later in that episode, Serena jokes she's also from Babylon.
