No Flying Suit forAunt Clara?

It's just something you notice more if you watch several episodes back to back. I noticed that Clara seemed to wear the same black suit a lot.

I don't believe I ever saw Aunt Clara wear a "flying suit" like Endora and Samantha. Endora's green and lavender one suited her more bohemian, "out there" personality. Sam looked great in the black one, even though a blonde, she could carry it off.

But whenever Aunt Clara popped in, dropped down the chimney or ON the gazebo, she was usually wearing her black suit with the two big buttons and the fox furs.

Was that supposed to be her "flying suit"? Was it the age of the actress that they didn't dress her in one of those long filmy gowns? It would seem natural that witches would dress their age like mortal women. Although some women don't! It's hard to look at an elderly woman in shorts and a tank top. lol

Marion Lorne's costumes were flattering and suited her age and personality. It's just that there were so few of them. I think she finally got a new hat in 'The Corn's as High as the Guernsey's Eye' when Sam bought her one to cheer her up!

But Sam and Endora didn't always wear their "flying suits" when they popped in and out.

As for Clara, she seemed to rely on "old school" incantations even just to do the simplest bit of witchcraft. She rarely,
if ever, pointed or snapped her fingers. It was always a spell she would recite.

Yeah, I thought about that, Sam and Endora "didn't always wear their flying suits" after I asked the question.

Maybe their flying suits were just for "long distance flights" and not for "short hops". ha!

There were scenes of them flying or sitting on the wing of a jet (probably just taking a short break) when they wore their flying suits.

Serena never popped in wearing one. But there were so many times when Aunt Clara dropped in and she was always in that black suit. So I got to thinking it was her version of a flying suit.

Interesting point about her being "old school". Yes she did her magic in a different way. It was always longer spells or incantations. Sam would very often just snap her fingers or wiggle her nose. Maybe there was no ONE way to perform spells. Witches had different styles.

Or maybe it was an age thing. In the Porpoise Milk episode when Darrin goes to buy bat wings and eye of newt, the storekeeper is on the phone ordering supplies. He doesn't want more brooms because the "young witches" don't use them. He tells Darrin that "the witch supply business just aint what it used to be. Today everyone uses those instant spells."

Maybe it was a sly wink at frozen TV dinners and other instant foods that were becoming popular. Everyone was doing things fast. But old school witches like Clara relied on longer, old fashioned incantations.

Great topic. I took a break from the show so I could come back to it fresh.
Clara's alternate outfit seemed to be that light blue one.
Side topic:
I would love to see a natural color photo of Clara to see what makeup choices were made for her.
I've seen the colorized versions and assume the colors were wrong regarding her eyes.
Same with Endora's flying suit. The colorized version has two colors but I think it's only one.

New to this thread but LOVE the topic! I've been obsessed with their flying suits for years! haha

Are you saying Endora's suit is really all purple in the B&W seasons?

I love this topic...and I know it's 2 years old...but I was just thinking about this myself. No, Endora and Samantha didn't always wear their flying suits either.

Also wanted to point out that Gladys makes a reference to Endora's flying suit in the early episodes when she and the neighborhood women come to introduce themselves to Samantha as sort of a welcoming committee to Morning Glory Circle. She asks Samantha something like "Do you have a gardener that works in pajamas?" I always took that to mean that she had obviously spying on Samantha and seen Endora in what would appear to be an extravagant nightgown.

Also there weren't many times when Endora would allow herself to be seen by Darrin in her gown. She'd quickly change before he could see her.
