One of my favorite episodes...

is the one where every time Darren tells a lie, his ears grow (My What Big Ears You Have). That episode aired 7 December 1967. Fifty years old and it's still hilarious. What's the message board's favorite?

I like the one with the 2nd Darrin where Esmeralda sends Sam back to old Salem by mistake. Just like the way the whole thing plays out even though the judge was unbelievable, even silly at the end when they both disappear. Time ran out on the episode though so they had to do something.

If I start to think about it too much, I end up with a whole list!

But one of the first ones that comes to mind is the one where Endora put a vanity spell on Darrin. He bought mod clothes including a gold lame suit and become totally obnoxious.

reply

Ha! Yes. I think it was Samantha that had the shimmering dress and Darrin said something like he could see his reflection a hundred times.

reply

I remember the woman that befriended her in that episode appeared on TAGS in the "Family Visit" episode.

reply

I just watched that episode last night. I laughed so hard at Gladys' reaction when she walks into the house to tell him about the package and sees his ears. She's absolutely terrified upon seeing them. lol Sandra Gould sure had her moments.

American Horror Story Season 6: Donald Trump

reply

Do you know you're the first poster that I can recall in YEARS that has
actually posted something positive about Gould? No, she wasn't Pearce,
but how's that even the point when NOBODY could've been as great as
Pearce.

I think Gould had many fine moments. And her being so bitchy only made
her terror all the more "rewarding" - she got her comeuppance.

reply

Oh Gould surely had her moments as I said...and yes, there was no replacing the amazing Alice Pearce....but Gould did her best...and yeah there was a time or two when I truly roared watching her be terrified of what she is seeing. In the words of Louise Tate, "That poor woman!" lol

I like the one where the dog looking creatures from outer space blasted her with the niceness gun. She was over the top nice and one of them said "I think I liked her better the other way" It really was so funny.

I also laugh when Aunt Clara zaps them back to Old Salem and Gladys got caught in it because she had snuck in the back door to the Stephens house. THe funny party to me is when Gladys looks as if she is looking at the camera and says "I don't like this dream. It's too much work" lol

reply

I don't know why but my favorite episode is the vapor lock episode where no one can leave the house.

reply

"I Confess". The reactions of Larry Tate (greed) and the Kravitzes (fear and then exploitation of their relationship with Samantha) are especially funny.

reply

I don't remember them having Adam when it was on. I was still a child & all reruns seems to be with Dick Yotk. I set DVR to record Antenna TV Seasons 6-8. I finished watching "Okay, Who's The Wise Witch?" a few minutes ago. It's the one with all locked in because of vapor lock. I'd never seen that one.

I think Dick York was the best Darrin, he had great facial expressions.

reply

I liked them both. With most series, I think the earlier episodes are the superior ones. The Scripts and characters are fresh.

reply

True. I read here that Erin Murphy & Liz were worried about Dick York's back & health. Erin was too young to worry arbout York's health. But she probably was because I certainly wouldn't know what it's like to be a young child actress.

reply

I always enjoyed the vapor lock one too. One thing that struck me about that one though was Endora at the end saying "what would your husband do without us and smiling. Don't remember another instance of her being that friendly regarding Darrin, if only for a moment.

reply

Mark_imdb_63 that is also one of my favs. It makes me laugh every time. I am sure there are many other favs to me but I just wanted to say that because I have pointed that one out to friends in the past as one of my favs.

Now my very favorite is not one where it is extremely funny but one that touches the heartstrings. It is called "A is for Aardvark" the one where Samantha lets the house cooperate while Darrin is recuperating after a broken leg and then it starts going to his head and he becomes overzealous. Later he comes to his senses and the doorbell rings. Samantha comes down and asks who was at the door. He gives her the roses and a gift that he said he bought before all this happened. I love that scene when Sam opens the gift. Her emotions are so genuine and sincere and touching. You can tell she truly loves him. I loved that romantic aspect of the show which it lost as it went on. But that is my all time favorite scene in the series of a serious moment.

But another funny favorite is the one where Endora has the bronze sculptured talking heads of Darrin and Larry. The reactions of the client and Larry to those heads totally crack me up.

it is so difficult to choose a favorite episode. instead, i have favorite characters. Gladys, either one of them because they were both brilliant actresses, and any episode she was in always makes me laugh. Aunt Clara and Uncle Arthur tie for second place. i loved how Sam truly loved them both in spite of their shortcomings. the episode where Arthyr and Serina lose their powers and have to get jobs always made me laugh, reminded me of Lucy and Ethel when they got jobs. i loved how reactive and expressive Dick York was; i sort of lost interest in the show when he was replaced.

Every time i try to think of a favorite episode, another one comes to mind. i grew up watching them during the original broadcasts so watching them now brings back a lot of good childhood memories, even 50 years later. thanks for starting this thread about a truly great show.

My favorite episode is Speak the Truth from season 2

When Endora was sick and any time her and Darin were nice to each other. Also the one where Clara meets Darin's family. It was so touching.

The easiest thing i have ever had to do was give my heart.

reply

One of my favorites is when Tabitha is born. Darrin & Endora were nice to each other, almost to the point of tears, in this one.
It's the first time Darrin found about Serena & thought the baby grew up.

I never watched Seasons 6-8. They're on now on Antenna TV is Boston area.
Mrs. Kravitz was part of the series. Alice Pearce took job knowing she was ill. I like them both.

reply

Most of the episodes from seasons 1 and 3.

And someone said "Speak the Truth" from season 2. That's always been one of my favorites too.

reply

I like all with Dick York. The other Darrin didn't have the facial expressions.

reply

I'm surprised that no one else already mentioned S2 EP. 33: "Divided He Falls." Where Endora divides Darren’s work side and fun side. Dick York’s performance as “fun” side is hilarious! Especially the way he says “Crazy!” Which is something he never does and when he happily calls Endora “baby” (to her delight). lol!

reply

Another favorite of mine is one of those emotional, love story type episodes, "If They Never Met". During an argument Darrin wishes he'd never met Samantha. Endora sends Sam back to the time when Darrin was going to marry Sheila. But he doesn't feel right about it. Strange that Endora would do something like that. She allows Samantha to see that Darrin would be lost without her.

Endora always seems to be trying to break up her daughter's marriage. But in an episode like this, it seems like she is doing the opposite.

Another favorite 'Endora puts a spell on Darrin' episode is "Cheap, Cheap". Darrin becomes a totally annoying tightwad.
