Shocking Scene Similar to the one in The Birds???

Does anyone else find similarities in the graphic scene in this movie (try not to leave spoilers) vs. a very graphic scene from Hitchcock's 'The Birds'.

I was under the impression that one must have inspired the other but they both came out in 1963 so that seems unlikely. Still, both scenes are VERY graphic for their time...really, that level of gore would fit right into a Friday the 13th type slasher movie of the late 70s/early 80s.

Just wondering if anyone else saw a parallel?

Well, The Birds came out months before X-Ray, so it's more likely that Corman was inspired by it.
