Terrific

This really is a great horror film, anyone agree?

Well, it's been awhile since you posted this but I agree it's a really cool film. The pacing's tighter and it seems to zip along faster than most gothic horror from this period, the appearance of The Punisher when finally revealed was awesome and the whole movie looks great. I also loved the rat-in-a-cage bit and the room filling full of water. I watched it under the Virgin of Nuremberg title. Apparently some of the other cuts of the film aren't as good.

Looked for this one for years. Media Blasters released an uncut version called VIRGIN OF NUREMBURG and I bought it. I liked it a great deal. Having Christopher Lee on it is great and the make-up and other effects are excellent as are the cinematography and the sets. I regard it as a bit of a lost treasure.

The last 20 minutes or so were engaging. I thought the "living skeleton" subplot was rather interesting. It kinda made me think of Red Skull from Captain America, since his skull-like appearance was the result of Nazi experimentation, or Phantom of the Opera on account of the way that he too resembled a skull with flesh strewn across it. I also liked that the lead had some strength to her; particularly in the part where she cut the punisher's hand as he was reach through the door and then remarked to herself that ghosts don't bleed.

There's just not enough going on to make the film work though. It has some atmospheric moments to it, and some of the imagery works really well, but it's mostly dull. It gets to be entertaining near the end, but by that point it's too little too late.
