Watched this movie tonight on TCM and it was o.k. or a little better than average but kind of looked like a made for TV movie from the start credits till the end. Overall, all of the actors were good. Nick Adams seemed to always play this part, Richard Chamberlain was mediocre out of his Dr. Killdare role, Claude Rains hardly appeared in the film, and James Gregory was good as always. And Joey Heatherton? Ahh, oh sorry, I started thinking about her. I've always liked Joey Heatherton and even found myself 'Goo-Ballin' her during this move while she was dancing in front of the jukebox in the bar. Yes, I couldn't help but 'Goo-Ball' her. Can you blame any fine American Male, I rest my case your honor. Still, the movie basically plays like a good overlong old 'Perry Mason' episode which is not bad. Also, directed by the late great Boris Sagal (married w/childrens Katie Sagal's father) who was unfortunately killed in a horrible helicopter decapitation accident. This movie is good time filler and compared to today's T.V. shows (90% reality programs and 10% CSI shows-the one's that have all the endings with quick backflashes with a 'SWOOSH' sound where the killer confesses everything with camera flashes of the murder/body) this movie's is good and I'll give it a recommendation.

I watch it too rl and I agree that it should be seen because it is a good movie. Mr. Robert Osborne gave some useful information. He said it wasn't well received at the box office at the time. Of course it was very similar to the James Stewart movie Anatomy of a Murder that was released just 4 years earlier. If it had been made in color it might have helped. Still this one is worth seeing when it is shown on tv again.

Yes except for the wide screen it looked a bit like a made for TV feature of which there weren't that many.
Anyway a lot of the more adult parts you wouldn't see on TV back then.
