Riding in a 'balloon chair'?

If I am not mistaken, this movie had a scene where one of the sons goes floating off in a patio chair tied to weather balloons?
(If it is, I saw this film at the drive-in when I was only ten or so years old. The memory is still there because the film that played after was Dr. Strangelove and it made a strong impression on me even at that young age. My folks weren't impressed with Dr. S and only stayed because I insisted. Thanks mom and dad.)

YES! You are correct. This scene was in this film, in fact it was the basis for the whole ending!!!

You're right, except that there was no patio chair. The boy was strapped into a harness which was suspended from the balloons.

I wonder if Colorado "balloon boy" Falcon Heene's parents, whom local authorities now suspect of staging a hoax, were inspired by this movie.

All the universe . . . or nothingness. Which shall it be, Passworthy? Which shall it be?

Thanks for clearing this up. I too had a memory of a movie in which a kid went flying off tied under a bunch of balloons. This was the movie. I was starting to think I had imagined it all.
