There is no way that old cow could have had a baby

No way!

Then you know nothing of human reproduction. Women have been having babies into their 50s forever. It's not the norm, or even common, but it happens. Arlene Francis was a bit old for the part in real life, but I think she believably played a woman in her late 40s to early 50s. More importantly, that the pregnancy was improbable was part of the plot.

Sadly, she is no longer with us. But she was a charming, talented, vivacious lady who certainly doesn't deserve to be referred to as "that old cow".

By the way, Doris Day was over 40, too, when she made this film.

You are a troll, for sure. And a ten-year-old one, at that!

Excuse me, but Janet Jackson is having a baby and she's 50. Adrienne Barbeau had twins at 51. She's mentioned that she was the only patient in the maternity ward who was a member of AARP. If Ms. Francis was playing a woman in her early-50s, it certainly WOULD be possible! This is totally plausible!

Even at 13 when I first saw this movie, I recall thinking that Arlene Francis seemed a little old but remember this was 1963 and women in their 40s were not considered spring chickens like now. People hang on to youth longer.

For the movie to work the baby to be parents HAD to be older so that it was a big shock.
