Inveraray and Thomasina Filming Locations?

I am planning on visiting Inveraray soon on a trip to Scotland from the United States. Thomasina was one of my favorite movies as a child so I am very excited to see where it was supposedly filmed. I went onto Google Earth to virtually "walk around" Inveraray to get a feel for the town. As I was "walking around" I didn't see anything that resembled the movie at all. At the beginning of the movie when Thomasina is up on the hill, it is unmistakably Inveraray in the background. You can clearly see the castle and where the town juts out. Once the movie takes place in the town though, nothing looked familiar. Does anybody know anything about the movie and it's relationship with Inveraray? Is the market with all the arches in the town? The McDhui's house? Were the street scenes filmed somewhere else? If anybody knows anything about filming locations, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I looked all over Inveraray on the Google Maps street view function, and I could not find anything that looked like the street scenes in the movie. My hunch is that these scenes were staged in the London studio, with photographic backgrounds from representative streets that could have been almost anywhere. There was convincing darkroom wizardry being done before the advent of CGI.

I am glad you agree that the street scenes weren't filmed in Inveraray, I can stop thinking I am crazy. I'm not convinced though yet that it was a studio. Their front yard just looks too real to me. The real McDui house and street must be somewhere! If anybody else knows anything, please let me know!
