Jack Nicholson retires = no remake where he stars in Karloff's role

This movie is a cult classic by virtue of the fact that it's appeared in so many public domain sets that you can count. How often have we seen DVD and VHS copies showing "Jack Nicholson in THE TERROR" on the cover while giving Karloff second banana status?

I always thought it would be kind of cool if they were to remake this movie with Jack Nicholson playing Karloff's role. True, only hardcore horror movie geeks would understand the reference, but what made The Terror special was that one film screen legend (Karloff) was in a way, passing the torch to a future legend (Nicholson).

While Nicholson wasn't primarily known for being a horror movie actor as Karloff was, he has starred in The Shining and Wolf.

Before he announced his retirement, I always held some hope that a remake would get made. Yeah, the chances were almost nil, but as long as Jack Nicholson kept making movies, then the possibility, no matter how remote, was always there.

I'd be utterly astonished to see him star in a remake of this film anyways. I don't expect it whatsoever.

His roles did often have a sardonic element to them - and remember him in The Witches of Eastwick? Then there was his epic owning of the waitress in Five Easy Pieces.

But he's not gloomy/morose Karloffian; too tongue-in-cheek.

Or how about a sequel where an older Andre Duvalier becomes possessed by the spirit of the Baron and he's haunted by Helene?

I know it will never happen as this movie is considered B-grade schlock. But I love this movie (I even bought the Blu-Ray with the cleaned up visuals) because it's atmospheric quality is second to none.

How can you remake a movie that has no script?
