This is a great movie

I caught it accidentally a few years ago when I'd left a video recording by mistake. I watched it once and lent the video to somebody else, who promptly lost it.

Since then I've been looking for it everywhere (in the UK) but with no luck. Now I find out it's on TCM on 06/01/04 in the UK.

I can't wait

Yes...this is a great movie. I saw it for the first time on TCM in the US, about a month ago. I've looked everywhere for it, but no one sales it. The video store in the mall, can't even order it...it's unavailable. I think they need to release it again, or bring it out on DVD at least!

I just saw it today this afternoon on free-to-air Tv in Australia and found it to be pretty enjoyable. Hope you ended up catching it 3½ years ago when it played in your neck of the woods.

Its such a cute simple movie I love it.

Amazon has it for sale as a VHS tape only.

I'M SORRY BUT IT'S HARD FOR ME TO ENJOY ANYTHING FONDA IS IN EXCEPT MAYBE "GOLDEN POND" WHERE SHE HAD A SMALLER PART. I WOULD SAY SHE IS AN ADEQUATE ACTRESS BUT HER PERSONALITY SUCKS. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HER FILM ACTING BUT SHE'S ANNOYING.

I think this movie is terrific. I caught it on a whim on TCM, and I must say it's a shock to me that's not available on DVD. It's definitely a niche film, but I LIVE in that niche!

i just watched it also and thought it was great

I just watched it again, and it is still 'delicious' in an oddball way. It was made 'pre-hanoi jane' days so I can tolerate Jane Fonda in this lightweight movie. (I also really like her brother's apartment, very cute for a small loft.)

Robert Culp's teeth... geez, how did he get them to sparkle so well??

All those wonderful actors, so young! And even an undocumented cameo by another actor who became a star in his own right. Very enjoyable performances all around.

This movie is 'somewhat' dated, it's true, but it still is entertaining, unlike a number of the movies that came out later in that decade. Sometime in the future I'll probably watch this again.

My mom got me hooked in this movie back in the 80s. It is hilarious and so much fun to watch. Even though it is dated, it is a treat to watch. Thankfully I was able to pick this film up on VHS back in the 90s, and I enjoy watching it every now and then.

like a Doris Day movie without Doris Day.

To msilva: It's a shame you don't appreciate Ms. Fonda more. She was splendid in this film and it marked the beginning of a long, distinguished acting career.

On another point, I love the part where Rod Taylor says "the next generation will have it easier. There won't be a question, just yes or no." LOL It was like he had a crystal ball!

Good one. I've really liked some of her films, but just don't find her appealing in them.

I love old movies, but somehow I had never heard of this movie until today. I loved it! It was on TCM on 3/29/09.

What a charming movie! I just caught it on TCM November 15th, 2009, (recorded a couple of days prior).. Jane Fonda was intelligent and curious, Rod Taylor was delightful and Cliff Robertson was very credible as the brother. Jim Backus had a memorable smallish role as well.

Superb casting, charming loft apartment, great early 1960's atmosphere. The mistaken identity angle could have been further exploited for more laughs though, and I thought it ended rather abruptly, all too soon, I wanted more!

I also was struck that it could have been a formulaic vehicle for Doris Day, but casting Jane Fonda was an inspired choice, she has a subtlety and honesty that Ms Day would have been hard pressed to equal.

Good show! 7 stars

Really nice movie. I saw it here in India on TCM today, and I must say,I simply loved it

I am a fan of Jane Fonda's movies, so I recorded this off TCM, but I almost bailed out on it - the first bit was boring, until she meets Rod Taylor, then it became completely charming & humuorous. The way they met was a "cute meet", as they say in an episode of "Sex in the City". I was really surprised by the storyline though, for it's time! All the actors were great in their roles, and even though Culp's character didn't do anything bad, I was still rooting for Taylor to end up w/ Fonda. The brother's storyline was cute too, and he was great as the brother. I found myself laughing a lot, and really enjoyed it!

I thought I would take a look at this movie only because it had Rod Taylor in it whom I love, but I wasn't expecting much especially with Jane Fonda in it, not that I have anything against her I'm just not a fan of her work. Well, I was pleasantly surprised, it was lovely to see Jane Fonda play such an innocent funny, quirky character, and wasn't she absolutely beautiful, very Doris Day or Mary Tyler Moore. She was simply stunning in this film and I didn't realise how funny she could be, she really had me laughing alot at some of her subtle lines and facial expressions, it worked well with her beautiful big eyes. And Rod Talor of course was his usual gorgeously handsome gentlemanly self. He sure does comedy well too, again alot of subtle witty lines and great facial expressions. I loved the chemistry between them, it was quite electric and so real. All in all, lovely little movie, a bit twee but still simple and lovely.

I feel the same way. I hadn't heard of this movie before I saw it in the listings. I've never been a Jane Fonda fan but for some reason I decided to record it to DVR.

When I finally watched it a few days later I loved it. I laughed so hard during some scenes I had to stop the movie so I wouldn't miss anything. It was fairly predictable as some people have said but it was delightful and very reflective of its time.

What I don't understand is how you missed the beginning but was still able to enjoy the movie. I thought the beginning is what set everything up so nicely.

I was not at home ... when I got home it was on the TV ... I seldom turn my TV off ... I am not a big JF fan but when I sat down I saw that Rod Taylor was in it and I was shocked to see him opposite JF .. When I started watching it was at the part where they were standing together on the street and it was raining .. and they decided to go to her brother's apartment ... what happened before then I do not know .. I hope to see the full movie someday .. I had never heard of the movie until then .. and just as you .. I laughed out loud several times .. It put joy in my heart by the time the credits rolled ... I was sorry that it was done ... Happy Holidays to you my friend .

It sounds like you missed quite a lot but I guess it didn't matter since you got what was going on. I rarely watch movies I've already seen so I didn't save it but next time it's on TCM, or elsewhere, I definitely plan to watch it again.
