Arch Hall Jr.'s 'Performance'

I saw This Film , the Other Night , on-TCM , for the First Time since I-don't-know how-long ... did Anybody-Else notice the Similarity in Acting Technique used in Arch's Performance to That-of John Tavolta's Charcter , Vinny Barbarino on "welcome-back Kotter"? ... in-Other-Words , DUMB!

reply

He was supposed to be simple, even dumb. The beauty was that he was not AS dumb as the somewhat arrogant teacher thought he was. Charlie managed to see through a couple of escape attempts.

Charlie was all action, the teacher all words. The film has a lot more going on than first appears.

That ending though - ugh.

reply

yes. I-agree ... and I really DID like the Film !!! ... Arch portrayed "Charlie" as a 1950s/1960s "Hoodlum" Type , the "Modern Day" Equivalent being "the SweatHogs" (even-tho "welcome-back , Kotter" was produced in the 1970s , there are still a lot of "SweatHogs" around-Today).

Would you rather he got away? Sounds as though you are rooting for the psycho.
