Was there an Alternative Ending?-WARNING: SPOILERS!

Somewhere (on Amazon.com, I believe) I read about a different ending (even more grim).

I first saw this dark gem way back when, but I do not recall an alternative conclusion.

WARNING: SPOILERS! - The review mentioned that the girl is about to be bitten by a rattlesnake, then it abruptly ends.

Has anyone ever seen this version?

Anyways, I always felt that this was the classic/textbook example of how to produce a truly suspenseful horror thriller with practically no money or 'big time' stars. (Is that what Hall meant when he said he hated "Big Talkers?")

All you need is an engrossing plot (or horrific incident), the right out-of-the-way locations and convincing actors. Students of horror filmmaking should check this out.

The final scene really did take me by surprise; something I never counted on.

Also, PLEASE-NO REMAKE! Or Arch will come after you.

I saw the movie late at night in the early 1970's. It really stuck with me, so when I was able to get a copy I was excited to watch it again. The ending on the original movie I saw, was not happy. After all the mayhem seemed to be over, the last survivor sitting in the cab of the old truck looks over at a rattlesnake about to strike her. The End!

I heard about that different ending, but never saw it. Maybe there were two prints circulating in syndication. They should have included both versions on the DVD.

Also, check out that episode of NAKED CITY, "A Case Study of Two Savages' with Rip Torn and Tuesday Weld.
