its wearing well


Just watched this again after 12 years and think its aged beautifully, the humour seems quite 'now' and all its social commentary is still relevant. Never thought memories of *beep* British Seaside holidays would ever be evocative.

I agree. I think it's only recently that the film is being re-assessed, being unfairly maligned over the years. The cinematography is fantastic. I think only the final scenes let it down as the director doesn't seem to be able to pace the chaos at the gala dinner properly. But that aside it is a wonderful film.

Sadly underrated for so long. I think that had it been given the proper backing at the time of it's release it would have done better. I'll probably get shot down here, but, I prefer this over The Rebel.

I read that Hancock was drinking heavily at the time and he does look tired and depressed in the film- in fact his exhausted world weary appreance makes him look uncannily like Gordon Brown.
