Rescue Aircraft

When the crew of PT-109 get washed up on the island and a rescue aircraft flies over and doesn't spot them, what aircraft was it? Personally I think it might have been a HU-16 Albatross.

I saw the movie again today. Didn't look like it had a seaplane hull.
They might've used archive film of a plane flying over.

Apologies if this sounds 'whiney' but it did look like a HU-16, but it equally could've been a PBM-5 Marlin.

It was a flying boat. It was either a Grumman HU-16 Albatross or Grumman Mallard which was the civilian version.
