There are no women in this film

There are no women in this film at all.

Most war films have some women in them, either wives and girlfriends seeing the men off, women in flashbacks to civilian life, servicewomen, hospital nurses, or native or local women.

"Lawrence of Arabia" is another film with no women (except in crowd scenes).

Pacific Islanders learned from their experience with the Japanese to keep their women well away from foreign troops.

There were no women in this film because there were no women on Tulagi, The Russell Islands, or Rendova -- the locations depicted in the movie -- in real life in the spring and summer of 1943.

The film is more realistic for their absence.

Absolutely! You can't throw women into a film like this purely for the sake of having female characters.🐭

I agree, although given how insanely popular Jackie Kennedy was in 1963, I'm surprised the producers didn't figure out some way to shoehorn her character into the film (e.g., flash-forwards of JFK telling her about his exploits while wooing her after the war.)
