Buddy Love is Don Draper

When I was watching the movie today I kept thinking of how much Jerry as Buddy Love reminded me of Don Draper, especially in the scene when he takes Stella on the dance floor and the cigarette in his mouth is practically poking her in the face :-)

I personally don't recall Don Draper, but it's possible he could have been part of the model for Buddy Love. If you can, take a look at the special "Jerry Lewis: Method to the Madness". I just saw it, and when it gets to focusing on production of "The Nutty Professor", Jerry explains that Buddy Love is a compilation of different people and, more specifically, people with negative qualities that he knew and he just combined them. He DID say it wasn't Dean Martin. Some people on this message board posted that it was Buddy Rich or Frank Sinatra being the person that Buddy Love was based on, but nothing was said specifically about them in the special - or anyone else - that I can recall. They could well have been part of the development of the character, though.

No, dude.

Don Draper.

Mad Men.

TV show.

Debuted 2007.

I guess the OP unwittingly and unknowingly left a small trap by saying Buddy reminded him of Don, rather than the chronologically correct reverse (or perhaps he used the periods DEPICTED in the respective works as an actual timeline instead of the PRODUCTION dates), but you could have done a simple search to not show yourself up quite like that. :)

I say this because Mad Men is thoroughly worthy of being known about, thus to not know it is a fairly significant failing in one's cinematic / cultural knowledge.

I wonder if Jon Hamm modeled Don Draper after Buddy Love a bit?

Watching this now for the first time, I see more Frank Sinatra in Buddy Love's style. I bet he was an arrogant, but talented, jerk just like Buddy Love.

No way. Buddy Love has Roger Sterling written all over him. The boozy charm, the sarcastic wit, the stylish tailored suits...

Okay, well... filibuster.
