If I remember, the teachers refer to the school as a university, but they're having a prom, and it seems to me like a high school. That would make Jerry Lewis' love interest significant;y younger than him, would it not? That's always bothered me about this movie.
I didn't see one person mention the Bible, God, Jesus, or religion in any way, shape, or form. But you just be tolerant of every little thing in the world but one and keep on pushing that hypocritical anti-religious agenda.

Yah I agree. None of them looked like they were in high school. They reminded me of the "teenagers" on Beverly Hills 90210. None of them looked like teenagers. Actually most of them looked kinda old even for university. That bully guy football player looked about 30.
Why are you so so rude and unpleasant? You didn't read the question correctly, but jump in and call me a moron? Why would you call anyone a moron? But in this case, well, I won't go on. It speaks for itself.
They're college seniors. Considering the difference in cultures between the early '60s and now, a senior dance for the students isn't all that odd. :-)
And remember for the most part the hairstyles, clothes and makeup of those days made people of all ages look much older.
And if Stella Stevens was playing a 22-year-old, it's not really all that 'pervy' for a professor of say, 30-35 to want to date her. AND... her character could actually be older - not everyone attends/attended college straight out of high school.
Generally, actors are not as young as the people they portray in films about school days, high school or college. Today you see it a lot, too. A lot of actors seem to be able to play younger. I guess it's part of acting. It gets in the way sometimes, but take a look at older films, like the Fifties, and the people are like 10 years and more older than high schoolers in some cases. They look older too (they got away with that in the Forties when GI's returned and went back to college on the GI Bill). It's fun to watch some kind of mad, high school dance movie from 1956 and all the kids look 25 (and probably were). Hilarious.
Only the actors if you go through their imdb account were casted quite old. The football player that picks Jerry up and puts him in the cupboard was 37 at the time.
I think the students are supposed to be college seniors. College kids can have end-of-year dances too, but the term 'prom' is probably throwing everyone off. I think the professor is supposed to be no more than 30, which would make him AT THE MOST maybe 8 years older than Stella Stevens-- but who's to say she's only 22? She could be a slightly older student (25-26) herself.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Well the guy who hands the professor a book in class is clearly around 48 years old. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That was Henry Gibson and he was about 28 at the time.
"The same thing we do every day, Pinky, TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!"
it's college, you nimrod; they don't have professors in high school. but to me the students look like they're in their 30s, except the gorgeous stella stevens
At the end of the movie, when the professor does his big speech at the dance, he says "I really like it here at the university." .... so it's not a high school, it's a university.
Today, practically every university has a policy against professors beginning relationships with students who are currently enrolled in their classes. If they didn't, they would open themselves up to sexual harrasment lawsuits from students.
The 40 year old football players are a crack up. They'd be too old to play in the NFL, let alone college football.
I was watching it this morning, made me laugh out loud how clearly old that football player at the start was, the one who wanted to cut class for practice. I could see all the wrinkles on his face!
