good candidate for a remake?

I saw this movie years ago, and it seems to have disappeared since then. I remember having a HUGE crush on Horst Bucholtz.

However I watched a clip on YouTube and am more then a little embarassed to see Hollywood actors in blackface and phony accents trying to pass themselves off as Indians. This is a pity because the story of Gandhi's assasination and the movie's under-currents of political, ethnic, and religious extremism and its consequences are still pertinent today.

I have never thought much of re-making movies, and Hollywood's track record in this area hasn't been great. But if there ever was a movie that could benefit from being remade, it is this one.

If it were remade, I would like to see genuine Indian actors in the roles. Any suggestions from Indians out there who might be good choices?

Nine Hours To Rama does not need to be re-made. It just needs to be re-released!
