This movie should be in the top 250, youssef chahine has made a truly unforgettable masterpiece although it was released in 1963 i don't see a big difference between it and kingdom of heaven 2005 in the war scenes and ahmed mazhar's charismatic performance as saladin was really really amazing. please try to see this movie and vote for it to be put in it's right place.

this list is NOT the best 250 movies of all time of course
because
the majority users here are americans & under 30 years old
& what makes this movie unipue also
that it was made on 1963
we may do other movies like this today, but it still "the first"
Just like the Godfather did,
it was made on 1972(i guess)
so it was the first movie of that kind & that good

I hate to shatter your illusions, but The Godfather was not the first gangster movie, and this is not the first historical epic.
I live in Ireland, and I am having difficulties finding it, dispite the fact that other Egyptian films are quite popular here (with the world cinema crowd).
shareIt takes a lot of votes to get a movie into the Top 250 - five thousand I think - because otherwise you could get a handful of enthusiasts pushing up movies that didn't deserve it. Unfortunately, because it's so difficult to find, Saladin's only been voted on by 291 people. If only it were out on DVD there'd be a much better chance.

Have seen it now - and I have to say it's not Top 250 material anyway. Chahine DID make a truly brilliant movie about the 12th century Arab world - but it's Le Destin, not Saladin.

but then again if you see what for movies make the top 250 *cough* amelie *cough* When there's no more room in hell, The dead will walk the earth...
