Question about the furniture

What style of furniture is in Hector Enderby's (Robert Morley's) study? You can get a good look at it in the last scene -- there's a sofa and two armchairs. They're low to the ground, with very deep seats, and the backs are angled way back. The back of the sofa is reclined so far that it almost looks like a bed.

I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it before. Is it a style associated with English country houses?

I was wondering the same thing. Would a lower center of gravity be helpful with the horsey set?
