Picture (SPOILER0

Exactly which picture was the valuable one. At the end of the film we do not actually see the one the fuss was about.

Yes and who killed the man at the beginning?

reply

Miss Milcrest must have put the cat there, but what was the guarantee it would kill him?
She was a bit of a goer that woman!

reply

i never was sure, if old Enderby at the beginning was murdered (scared to death), and if so, who did it? Was the picture not always Coras? Therfore the murder of Enderby was not necessary.

reply

I think that Crossfield did it. Didn't Miss Marple identify his riding boot?

reply

Crossfield visited the house that day as did they all, which he says when speaking to the killer before his death in the stable. But he wasn't the kiler of old Enderby. That was Miss Milchrest.

Miss Marple found the bit of mud with the impression of the stirrup iron, but Miss Milcrest did not ride. Frankly that mystery is never explained.

That mystery is explained. The mud fell from George's boot who came there to ask him for money (other family members also separately came to beg him that very day).

But I don't think old Enderby was murdered because the picture Flora Robson wanted so much was in possession of his sister. So when he died of a heart attack she killed Cora and made it look like they were both killed by a family member and she made up that conversation where Enderby supposedly said to Cora that someone in the family is out to get him . That way she would finally get the picture she wanted so much and make other people look guilty. It was never explained why there was a cat in the manor but I think it was just a red herring.

reply

Enderby was not killed in the book, his death was just convinient for the killer.

reply

We still don't know which painting was the valuable one.

reply

I've seen this film a number of times and I don't understand the plot.

It was never said the supposedly first murder victim (the uncle) had or owned the picture. So why did his niece, nephew & cousin think they were inheriting it from him?

The companion,Miss Milchrest, said Cora had promised to leave the picture to her. So wouldn't that make it Cora's picture?

Also, the other heirs hadn't seen her in 30 yrs either. How did they even know about the picture?

Don't even get why there was a murder. Cora didn't know how much the picture was worth. The murderer could have simply taken and she'd have been none the wiser over the loss of some picture.
