Two questions

Can someone fill me in . . . I may be dense, but why did the killer kill George? Because he knew the killer's identity (i.e. the argument Miss Marple saw through the window?)

And, did the killer also kill Old Mr. Enderby? Or was it just a cooincidence that he died?

They wrap it up really quickly at the end and I'm not sure of those two bits.

Thanks!

1) He knew the killer's identity, AND was trying to take the picture away from the killer, because he also knew its great value.

2) You know, that is never really made perfectly clear. It could go either way.

The scene with the killer blocking the door of the stable was sorta cheating. This person was able to follow the cousin there, back up a vehicle and place a rock on the gas pedal, all while not being seen. Yet Crossfield , who heard nothing, immediately caught Miss Marple who was quietly looking in a window?

There was also another hole in the story. How did Miss Marple get the painting? Also, why would the nephew allow her to send a painting out from the Inn without at least looking at it? She didn't arrive with one!

Yes the killer killed George.

Mr Enderby was also killed by the killer to hasten inheriting the picture.

I dont think Mr Enderby was killed at all. In he book he certainly was not killed. But the murderer used the opportunity to spread lies that there was a killer among the relatives. In that way, the suspicion would not fall on the killer (the maid) because she did not have accsess to Mr Enderby.

But since there were some changes from the book (the major one being that it was a Poirot story originally), I may be wrong. I dont think so, though, since his death was not dealt with in that manner.

Actually Mr Enderby didn't own or even have the picture. Cora did. First the killer put it in each heir's head that one of the others had murdered the uncle. But it was for the sole purpose of setting up Cora's murder. Then the killer bumped her off and stole the painting but made it look like one of the relatives had struck again.
