Just realized what was implied...

...about some comments made in the movie.

This is a wonderful movie teeming with sarcastic irony. I seem to continue to return to it to watch, over and over. The movie is just 85 minutes in length, and on Netflix streaming, I now have 5 hours 35 minutes accumulated. I don't know how they measure that, because I don't think its changed since I've started watching it again, this evening.

What I came to realize is being implied in the dialog is that Vincent and Cynthia, who has agreed to marry Vincent when he returns from the moon, are cousins. Vincent's father, Mountjoy, was addressed as "uncle" by Cynthia, as Mountjoy was looking out the window, and just moments later is addressing that member of parliament by discussing the member's "daughter".

So, the implication is that they keep it all in the family, and the resulting inbreeding contributes to the inane behavior of the townsfolk.
