McLintock! - a cheechalker?

In the movie, Katherine calls someone a cheechalker ( not sure of the spelling ). What the heck is that?

At what point in the movie? It could have been ole Govenor Cuthbert or ole GW his self . . . kinda like cityslicker or even sidewinder . . . not really meant as a good name . . .just 'genteel'

It is what Katherine McLintock (Maureen O'Hara) calls Jones (Leo Gordon) when
young Ben Sage (Edward Faulkner) comes back with Jones' daughter Millie Jones (Kari Noven). This happens just before the 'mud fight'.

A "Vistior" or "Outsider." Probably referring to the fact that the homesteaders were all newcomers to the Mesa Verde.

Its spelled "cheechako" and its Native Alaskan for "alien" or "foreigner". Just look up the spelling in your favorite search engine and you'll have all the info you could ever want. :)

When Katherine calls the guy a cheechalker, she is refering to Mr. Jones. She says, "How long is GW going to let that cheechalker push him around?" I think its a foreigner or outsider or something like that. She didn't like the sooners coming either, (thinking of her reaction to finding out Dev was a farmer).

I've been reading much about the Klondike gold rush circa 1898 and the term is frequently used.. Cheechako was the term applied to newcomers, greenhorns, tenderfeet.
