G.W. McLintock has just refused his wife a divorce. He picks up his hat and goes to the door of the room.

Kathryn McLintock: "I hate you. OH, how I hate you!"

G.W. McLintock: "Half the people in the world are women. Why does it have to be YOU that stirs me?" He grabs her and kisses her. She pulls away as far as she can.

Kathryn McLintock: "You ANIMAL!"

reply

PEEE-OPLE, PEEE-OPLE, PEEE-OPLE!!!

reply

Obviously the quote about him not being intoxicated .. yet ! is the best.

but I als like ... "like father, like son"

reply

...at the interest of adding an unmentioned quote and albeit a bit politically incorrect, I liked the line when GW handed the "spanking shovel" back to his future son-in-law and said "Keep it, you might need it..."

I like the quote by Dev Warren. "I said what I said and I'll stand by it to the death." and the quote by Drego "Pee-ple, peeple, peeeple."

and prolly a bunch of others! I love the whole movie lol

reply

Yeah, Dev's quote was one of my faves too... I have seen this movie so many times- it is just as hilarious as the first time I saw it. I was quite taken with Patrick after I saw him in this movie. John Wayne rules! :)

"Now for this young whipper-snapper..."
"Now no harm has been done, and young Ben here is one of the nicest boys in the territory so just put down that shotgun and let's forget-"
"I'll teach him to fool with my-"

"Boss he's just a little excited."
"I know, I know, I'm gonna use good judgment I haven't lost my temper in 40 years but pilgrim you caused a lot of trouble this morning, mighta got somebody killed and somebody oughta belt you in the mouth! But I won't. I won't. The hell I won't!"

as much as I love the comic elements--most of the film--I have to go with Wayne's speech to Powers, where he tells her he's only going to leave her a small ranch, and the rest of his land for a public park, and that some people are gonna say it's because he was disapointed in her, or because he wanted to sit up in the hereafter and be admired. But he tells her its because he wants her to build it up with her husband--whoever it may be--'because nothin' can beat what comes between a man and a woman, with all that...growin' together' (quote not exact, but sentiments are).

That's a standard of marriage I saw in my mom and dad, and few others. I hope to come near to it myself...

'We all dream of being a child again - even the worst of us. Perhaps the worst most of all...'

reply

Drago: Jake, you better add twelve cases of whiskey to that order. Stuff sure does get used up fast around our place.
McLintock: That reminds me; you better start tapering off.

"SHOOT HIM, DADDY!"

Surprised this one isn't listed...

After delivering Catherine and her bags to the house (and being told off after commenting on how one woman could have so many clothes!)...Clem asks Mr. Mc, what does unprepossessing mean?

JW: Clem, someone called me that once, looked it up. It's best you don't know.

Clem: Ok, Mr. Mc, g'night, git up!

reply

Bunny:"I hope ya'll get measles." Referring to the kids with firecrackers.

My favorite is Katherine "nicely" explaining the situation to Mrs. Warren,
"It has been a bachelor's household for QUITE SOME TIME. And it will be again just as soon as I can make arrangements to take my daughter back east with me. You see, she's coming home in a few days, and then we'll be "off together" and you can return to conducting yourself as you see PROPER in this household"
"Katie!"
"Shut up. Until then, I'm mistress in this house. (she looks at GW) and I will give the orders."

reply

three pages of quotes and my favorite is still missing. I have loved this one since the first time I watched this movie in the theatre.

"What are you gonna believe, what you see or what I tell you."
- Wayne says it to his wife when she finds him at the bottom of the stairs, on top of the maid. he-hee.
