Why not in at least VHS?

"Mary, Mary",This is one of my all time favorite comedies. I originally saw the play in New York in 63' with Tom Poston. But the movie is great. I've taped it off the TV but my tape is fading. I haven't seen it played on any of the channels in years. I wonder why it's never been brought out in VHS at least, I'd love it in DVD. The dialogue is really wonderful. Anyone else out there with opinions on this picture?

As you state, Mary, Mary is a simply wonderful film. I guess you could say that in its own modest way this picture is a "hidden classic."

It's lack of general acceptance is easy enough to understand: the dialog you mentioned as being so superb is just that, superb; the problem is it's also high-brow and so the humor flies directly over the collective head of the general audience. For a similar reason studios such as Columbia dumb-down without a blush second-generation releases of other "classics" like Hard Times (Charles Bronson, 1975) to fullscreen instead of widescreen (the first release was a flip disc that provided both screen formats), an act which is, no doubt, appreciated greatly all across greater Iowa.

The copy of Mary, Mary that I have was grabbed off the Love Channel four years ago, and that was the first time I'd seen it for a coon's age!

It's a pity what's happening to cinema, but again, this is not difficult to figure. Nowadays all "Hollywood" even tries to do (besides blow things up) is to remake one classic film after another, and all they manage to do there is demonstrate just how utterly incompetent the movie industry has unhappily become.

This is a tedious film. Please, spare us your diatribes.

This movie features two of my very favorite actors, Barry Nelson and Michael Rennie. I own a copy of the play although I haven't read it in a few years. "She has more goodness in her whole body than you have in your little finger." "Ah, that's coffee!" I saw an amateur theater group do the play about 20 years ago. They "updated" it so the line where Bob says "You don't think Eleanor Roosevelt is beautiful?" became "You don't think Nancy Reagan is beautiful?" That was pitiful. I would love to own the movie and enjoy Barry Nelson's physical comedy over and over. He should have had the lead in the "Cactus Flower" movie version, too!

Any chance anyone has a decent copy of this on VHS or DVD? Let me know.

This witty comedy was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, and I've been searching for it ever since.

The tragedy I mentioned is that I had a date to go see the movie on November 22, 1963--the day John Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas. My boyfriend and I were going to cancel the movie date, but our parents wisely suggested we go. We were 17, full of shock and uncertainty and they said it would do us good, so we went. We laughed and laughed all the way through the movie and for 126 minutes things were "back to normal." After all there was plenty of reality waiting for us when we went home again.

I would love to have a copy of this movie; I just hope sometime, somewhere someone has the sense to reissue it on DVD so that many others can enjoy the laughs, the superb dialog and fine performances.
